Wheelchairs, Seating and Positioning Clinic

Our Geelong Neuro Centre Wheelchair Clinic is a multidisciplinary clinic led by our Occupational Therapy Seating Specialists to ensure your seating system is comfortable and functional. We work with you and your therapy team to find individual customised solutions to ensure comfort, improve function and prevent secondary complications associated with poor posture.

Seating may include, but not limited to wheelchairs, commodes or recliners.

How can we help you?

  1. Seating Evaluation: Evaluates your seated and lying mobility and function. Therapists assess posture, seating alignment, and pressure distribution to optimise comfort, safety, and independence.
  2. X-Sensor Pressure Mapping: Using our world class Xsensor pressure mapping system to provide objective evidence of your pressure and postural needs
  3. Equipment Trials: Trial equipment at home to ensure it suits your needs. Adjust current seating or try new equipment such as wheelchairs or cushions.
  4. Funding applications: Using information from assessment and pressure mapping system to complete funding applications
  5. 24 hour positioning: Those needing specialised wheelchair seating often require support for posture day and night, including when lying in bed (24-hour postural management)
  6. Delivery and setup: Ensure that all equipment is setup and adjusted as required. Provide training for families, carers, school and workplace.

XSENSOR Pressure Mapping

Many of the clients we work with are at high risk of developing pressure injuries. At GNC we have an XSensor Pressure Mapping System. We are one of the only private health services to have this in Geelong and the surrounding areas.

As part of our Seating and Positioning service we offer pressure mapping assessment and guidance

The X-Sensor Pressure Mapping System is an advanced tool designed to detect pressure using a specialised sensor pad. It provides live, visual feedback on a tablet screen, helping users and therapists monitor and optimise pressure distribution and positioning effectively.

  • Thorough Pressure Injury Assessment: Our Clinic Occupational Therapists conduct comprehensive evaluations assessing posture and pressure, addressing individual needs and identifying potential risks
