Upper Limb Therapy

Conditions such as stroke, muscular dystrophy, spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy and others can significantly impact upper limb functions.

Our specialised therapists use create techniques and technologies to improve hand and arm function.

We are one of the only private facilities to have some of the technologies including SENSe, InterX and a SaeboFlex trial kit available for our clients to trial.

How can we help you?

  1. Saebo technologies Including Saeboflex, SaeboMAS, SaeboStretch, SaeboReach. Assist with hand opening and closing, enhancing grasp and release abilities
  2. Splinting and casting: Helps to stabilise joints, reduce spasticity, and prevent contractures. They support proper alignment and movement, enhancing mobility and daily function.
  3. Constraint induced movement therapy: By restricting the unaffected limb, CIMT enhances motor skills and strength in the impaired limb, increasing independence in dally tasks.
  4. Upper body FES bike and electrical stimulation: Activates muscles and nerves, improving strength, reducing spasticity, and promoting function
  5. SENSe therapy: Uses innovative techniques and technology to help clients with neurological conditions improve sensory perception and motor function.
  6. InterX therapy: By using advanced interactive neurostimulation, InterX therapy targets specific areas of discomfort, helping to alleviate pain, improve motor function, and enhance overall well-being

What is SENSe therapy?

Loss of sensation or the ability to feel objects normally is a common challenge after a stroke or spinal cord injury. At Geelong Neuro Centre, we’re proud to offer the SENSe program, developed by Professor Leanne Carey, to help individuals regain sensation and restore function and independence.

SENSe therapy focuses on three critical components of sensation: proprioception, tactile recognition, and object recognition. Impaired sensation can make everyday activities—like shaking hands, reaching into a pocket, carrying items, cooking, or eating—significantly more challenging.

The good news? It’s never too late to work on regaining function, even years after a stroke. Backed by strong evidence and recommended in the National Stroke Guidelines, SENSe therapy has been praised by many clients who’ve experienced its benefits. Geelong Neuro Centre is one of the few private providers equipped with the SENSe Kit, and our therapists have undergone advanced training to deliver this program.

First, we’ll do a sensory assessment using the SENSe Kit to understand your needs and set your goals. Then we’ll design a program just for you.

You can choose to do weekly sessions, but many people see quicker results with an intensive program. We’ll chat about what works best for your lifestyle. Plus, we’ll give you a home exercise program to keep the progress going between sessions.

At GNC we have a suite of Saebo products including a SaeboFlex and SaeboReach trial kit, SaeboMAS, SaeboStep, SaeboStretch and SaeboGlove. GNC is one of the only private rehabilitation facilities in Victoria to have a suite of Saebo products available for our clients to trial.
