Locomotor Training

Locomotor Training is an intensive program focused on improving mobility, posture, standing, and walking. This therapy is completed either over a treadmill or on the ground using our harness system for body-weight support. Your therapist provides hands-on guidance for stepping and standing exercises, stimulating the nervous system to support recovery in individuals with spinal cord injuries, stroke, acquired brain injuries, and other neurological conditions.

Our therapists have undergone advanced training with international instructors. We are proud to offer the LiteGait system, one of the few available in Geelong and Western Victoria.

What is the Lite Gait System?

The LiteGait system is designed to enhance mobility, including postural control, standing, balance, and walking. Clients are positioned in a harness, and the LiteGait hoist system can be adjusted for support, either over the treadmill or on the ground. We can adjust the amount of support the hoist system provides by supporting more or less of your body weight.

Our Locomotor Intensive program is customised based on your goals and availability, with options for 2, 3, or 5 sessions per week. The program features:

  • Initial Assessment: A comprehensive evaluation to establish your goals, current function, and develop a treatment plan.
  • 45-Minute Therapy Sessions: Daily sessions using the LiteGait system to focus on guided exercises and neural stimulation.
  • Home Exercise Program: A personalised exercise plan to continue your progress at home.
  • Post-Assessment & Report: A detailed review of your progress, with recommendations for future therapy.

The cost of the Locomotor Intensive program depends on your individual needs and the number of sessions you choose. The fee also covers non face-to-face time for reports and setting up your home exercise program. Your therapist will discuss all pricing details when planning your personalised program.
