Meet our Speech Pathologist: Meg Lyall

Meg Lyall
What inspired you to pursue your career?
I became a Speech Pathologist primarily because I love wanted to work with people in a helping role. I am a bit of a nerd for learning about language and communication, so Speech Pathology was something that really interested me.
What do you love most about your role?
I really enjoy seeing the ‘uh ha!’ moment where things really click for the person I am working with, that moment where they make the breakthrough or learn the skill which they can use which makes a difference in their everyday life.
What is your favourite piece of therapy equipment at GNC, and why?
My favourite piece of therapy equipment would be the communication devices, I really enjoy getting to show people what technology is available now and how it can help them.
What is a memorable moment from your time at GNC?
A really memorable moment was working with a client of mine who hadn’t been able to use speech to communicate for a number of years due to a progressive disease, we set her up with an eyegaze activated communication device and she was able to tell her family she loved them. It is a moment that will live in my brain for a long time to come.
If you could instantly master any new skill, what would it be?
If it were possible for humans to fly I would do that, but otherwise I would pick carpentry & being able to build absolutely anything.
