Meet our Speech Pathologist: Hiba Al-Assafi

Hiba Al-Assafi
What inspired you to pursue your career?
I was drawn to speech pathology because I believe communication is one of the most essential — yet often overlooked — aspects of a person’s health and well-being. People don’t always realise how much we rely on communication to connect with others, express our needs, and participate fully in life. When someone’s ability to communicate is impacted, it can affect every part of their life.
What do you love most about your role?
I love how every day is different and each client i help requires unique strategies and treatments to help improve their function.
What is your favourite piece of therapy equipment at GNC, and why?
I can’t go anywhere without my Ipad, it has different Alternative Augmented Communication apps (AAC) and many super handy therapy apps for when I’m on the go in the community.
What is a memorable moment from your time at GNC?
Helping a client with Parkinson’s Disease finally be able to have a conversation at the dinner table with his family after years of withdrawing due to unclear speech.
If you could instantly master any new skill, what would it be?
Being able to sing would be helpful as i often embarrass myself during voice therapy
